Two vehicles go up in flames after collision at Kikam in the Western Region

A ghastly head-on collision by two vehicles Wednesday evening at Kikam in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region has left at least four persons feared dead.

The two vehicles went up in flames after one of them, a mini bus, had a flat tire and rammed into a taxi that was running on liquefied petroleum gas as fuel, eye witnesses say.Eye witnesses say the bus and taxi cab had both been traveling from Takoradi to Esiama,

Two passengers travelling in the tax are among the dead. A stationary private car was also affected by the inferno that ensued after the collision.

The bodies have been conveyed to the Axim Government Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

A local journalist, Lydia Mensah, reports the flames have been totally doused.

The incident happened a few minutes after 8 pm, Lydia told Joy News.

Fire service personnel and police are said to have had a tough time to bring the raging flames under control.

However, Lydia reports casualty figures could be higher as authorities assess the situation.

She said one person who escaped from the passenger vehicle that can accommodate at least 10 people is the only known survivor.

The unidentified person has been rushed to the hospital.
