Rotary Club of Accra-Airport City: Donation of Stationery, PPEs & Career Counseling Seminar

On Wednesday, 22nd July 2020, the Rotary Club of Accra – Airport City with kind sponsorship from Danco Impex, Sina Consult, Junara Pro, Lampstand Foundation and the Rotary District 9102 (which is made up of Rotary clubs in Ghana, Togo, Benin and Niger) donated stationery consisting of exercise books, pencils, erasers, mathematical sets, flat files, as well as hand sanitizers, hand washing soap, drinks and Rotary branded nose masks to the final year students of Unity JHS in Kotobabi.

The students were educated on how to wear the masks properly and other covid_19 safety protocols including a demonstration on how to properly wash hands with soap under clean running water before wearing the masks to avoid contamination.

The club then moved to Kotobabi Police Station to donate some of the masks and hand washing soap to the suspects in custody and the police station respectively.
The remaining masks were distributed by club members to the people in the community.

On 24th July 2020, an online career counseling seminar was held at Unity JHS, Kotobabi, via zoom.
The facilitators were Naana Pokua Biney who has a Background in Psychology, Political Science and Finance. She’s also an educationist and entrepreneur in the area of food processing for over 25 years, owner of two schools and a food processing /agro business.

Mr. Sina Kamagate is a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Banker, a Council Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers Ghana, Chartered Institute of Accountants, a Faculty member of the National Banking College, Risk Department and the Chief Internal Auditor of GCB Bank.

The session was interactive and both facilitators gave advice to the students on career choices , encouraged them to study well, remain focused and to excel in their upcoming exams. They also gave them some invaluable life lessons on a variety of areas of life.

The two activities carried out fall in line with two of Rotary International’s seven areas of focus, namely; Basic education and Literacy and Disease prevention and treatment.

This year, our theme is Rotary Opens Opportunities, so we hope through these activities to create opportunities for some of the beneficiaries of the work we do and gradually be the change we want to see.
